"As I argue in my latest book, the route to Fraserburgh should have been rationalised and developed as a key link for Buchan. Today, a new railway to Peterhead and Fraserburgh should be Scotland’s top-priority rail re-opening."
- David Spaven, author, transport consultant and rail industry expert.

2026 Scottish Parliament Election
CNER are fighting May's 2026 Scottish Parliament election across seven of the ten constituencies that make up the North East Scotland Region. MSPs elected from these constituencies will represent the people for which these rail improvements will have the greatest impact. Therefore, we are asking each candidate standing in this election in these constituencies to pledge to represent this campaign and it's supporters by doing everything in their power if elected to:
These goals are realistic within the time period of the next 5 year session of parliament. Candidates for the main parties in each of the 7 constituencies will be asked to sign up to this pledge, and will be given the opportunity to provide a quote to express their thoughts on our campaign's proposal. You can find these below. All we ask is that when you are considering who you will vote for on May 7th, check in here, we'd appreciate if you made sure your preferred candidate backs the rail improvements we need in the North East.

North East Scotland Regional Lists
In elections for the Scottish Parliament, the regional list is the part that uses your second vote to make the overall result more representative. Instead of voting for an individual person here, you vote for a political party. Each party puts forward a ranked list of candidates for that region.

Below you will find a list of candidates by party in the North East Regional List.

Candidates which have backed the CNER pledge are marked with a tick, click on the name to see what the candidate said about CNER's campaign and our goals.
